Preschool Graduation

May 27, 2010

Today was Luke’s Preschool Graduation.  He had such a sweet class this year and his teachers, Pam and Sheryl were amazing!  We are wondering where the time has gone–our “baby” is moving on to kindergarten!  Today, we all went to Torrence Chapel Park and had such a special ceremony.  One of my favorite parts was when they sang Jesus Loves Me, then they sang it with the sign language motions , then they hummed it with the motions, then they only did the sign language with complete silence.  It really was beautiful.

Ms. Sheryl said a prayer and as she prayed, she walked by each child and said a special prayer.  As she walked by Luke, she said,  “God bless Luke for his leadership skills and his boundless enthusiasm in everything he does!”

Here is Luke–with his teachers, Ms. Pam and Ms. Sheryl.  This is what Luke has to say about Ms Sheryl (on the left) “Ms. Sheryl loves me.  She helps me.  She lets us play blocks. She is sweet.  I will miss her!” Now about Ms. Pam:  “Ms. Pam likes to read and she likes to help us work.  And she likes to go outside with us.  She helps us.  I will miss her.”   Jerel and I will miss them too. They were so creative, so caring, so genuine–we are so blessed and thankful that Luke spent a whole year with these 2 amazing women!!

Saw this idea for -ings on a coulple of friends’ blogs–so thought i’d just write my random thoughts for this week in this -ing style!

remembering the sweet days of Davidson UMC Preschool.  This is our family’s 7th year and last year.  Today was Luke’s last day of preschool. I asked him to hold my hand while we walked in today and he wanted to know why and I told him it was my last day too! His graduation is tomorrow at a park nearby, so I’ll be sure to post some sweet pictures!!

wondering who will win American Idol tonight.  I’m thinking…. Lee.  But Chrystal is great too.  I just think I’d rather hear Lee’s voice on the radio.

praying for a friend whose husband passed away early this morning.  he had cancer and was in hospice care for the past 9 days.

wishing there was no such thing as cancer!  it just seems that it’s everywhere— sometimes i just think, what in the world?  and why do the BEST people get it?  no, i’m not really talking about me, but all the people i know with it. now, there are some “best” people who don’t have it too!!

burning chocolate chip cookies–as i type this.  i was also talking to my mom on the phone…multi-tasking makes me burn cookies!

juggling lots of things right now.  it does seem that May is the new December.  Every group/class/activity we’re in has a party or celebration.  also, swimteam starts–and that’s every day….so for a couple of weeks (until school is out), we’re a little bit crazy!

celebrating 15 years of marriage!  Jerel and I went last Friday to the hotel where we had our rehearsal dinner.    bailey was away at a girl scout camp-out and my parents kept the boys and the dog.  we had a great time— i gave him a journal that i’ve been keeping for the past month–full of some of our best memories of our marriage. that was fun to read through together and remember!

enjoying a 6 week break from any doctors.   i go back in mid-June to have a blood test and see Dr. Boyd in late-June.  Hopefully, we won’t have much to talk about!

reading the Bible.  still loving it.  i finished back in march going all the way through.  now, i’m working my way back through all my underlines and putting it in a journal.  funny–i started a page –way back in august- of verses i wanted to memorize/remember. well that “page” turned into several pages–just with the references on it, no words yet.  (i want to write them all out)–but i know it will fill up a whole entire journal!

gearing up for the summer.  we have to have a serious family meeting about summertime.  my boys (8 and 5) are loving picking on each other and annoying each other right now.  so, we’re laying down some laws.  i am wondering what is “normal” for brothers to do and where to draw “the line”!

looking forward to summer!  no 6:40am bus, no lunches to pack (at least not every day)—-and we’ll have some “lazy days” of summer—going to the pool, sleeping in, reading books, going to the beach, doing art projects.  can’t wait!!

knowing that i’ll be ready for school in August.   We all need a break sometime–even from the lazy days of summer.  but for now….bring it on!

Update 5/17/2010

May 17, 2010

Hello Family and Friends!

Tomorrow is my last day of radiation (#32)!!  I am a little behind schedule due to them giving me 4 days off 2 weeks ago. My skin reacted so badly (due to the oral chemo i’m on–which increases sensitivity of the cells)—so I’m finishing this week instead of last.  My mom and dad are meeting me there tomorrow, so they can be with me as I ‘ring the bell.’   I will be glad to drive away from the hospital tomorrow.

Jerel and I met with my Oncologist last week to discuss where we go from here.  We are in the same place we’ve been twice before.  I’m done with “treatment” for now—and we just hope (and pray!) that this cancer does not come back.  I will go back to have some blood drawn in 5 weeks and go back to see him in 6 weeks.    There are some new drugs that are in FDA approval for Triple Negative Breast Cancer—but we are praying that we never even need to know about them!!

On to happier things….Jerel and I celebrate our 15th anniversary this week!  I hope to post something special for that.

Thanks for caring, and for reading

Mother’s Day and other beautiful things

May 14, 2010

Mother’s Day was a great day for us this year.  We went to church and then out to lunch with my mom and dad.  We went to the Village Tavern at Southpark and ate outside.  It was a beautiful day—this picture is of the 5 of us (a rare picture!) on the deck of the restaurant.  When we came home, the kid gave me cards and a present.    I loved the cards so much–but I realize (after loading these pictures on the computer) that I only took a picture of Bailey’s card. (Don’t tell the boys!)  Hers was very special because she asked the boys (and Jerel) to make comments and she quoted them on her card.  Here it is, but it came out sideways and probably too small to read, but you can see just how special it was.

On Saturday (before Mother’s Day), we went to Carrigan Farms to go strawberry picking.  This was fun for all 5 of us…we came home and made a strawberry pie.  We ate the whole thing in 2 days!!

Another beautiful thing…. Luke’s preschool Art Show.  I can’t remember if I’ve blogged about this yet or not.  Luke is graduating from preschool in 2 weeks….we are closing the “preschool chapter” of our lives.   Each spring, they have an Art Show —the kids’ art is all around the building, but also a ton of it is displayed in their classroom.  Also, a bake sale and pizza dinner.  We are happy to have paid the last preschool payment, but will miss the sweet days of Davidson UMC.

Quote of the Week

May 6, 2010

The picture is just a random picture of Luke at the farm — there was a calf named Luke too!

OK…quote of the week…in the Target parking deck (uptown Charlotte)–we walked over a paint spill–a huge white circle about 2 feet diameter.  (looks like someone literally dropped a can of paint)

Luke says/yells/exclaims… “WHOA!  Look at that bird poop!”
